I’ve had a lot of brands over the past decade, some for product-based businesses, consulting, and events. A few of the brands are:
Blush & Whimsy – cosmetics, skincare
The Chihuahua Company – chihuahua store, formerly The Running of the Chihuahuas (event)
Christmas at Hogwarts – formerly an event, now Harry Potter store
Cannon & Thieves – men’s organic beard care and skincare, made in Taos (published on social, hasn’t launched officially yet)
The Whiskey Classic – event
The naming of your company and products is extremely important. A great name leads to an even greater brand, and excellent branding brings it all together for a memorable combination of Name + Logo + Fonts + Color Palette + Messaging. I’ll talk about creating your color palette in another post.
My method to come with a brand name includes 3 steps:
Step 1
Whiteboard every single word that speaks to you, inspires you, and what you want your brand and products to evoke.
My whiteboards get REALLY messy when I’m doing this exercise!
Words have power and impact; sometimes it takes one really strong word, a combination of words, or a phrase to get you where you need to be.
Once you’ve written down all the words you can think of, it’s on to the next step!
Step 2
Don’t laugh at me.
This tool has helped me so many times! Even if just to trigger my mind to think of something cooler!
Go to this website: http://www.hipsterbusiness.name/
You promised not to laugh!
It sounds silly, but clicking through all the combinations with the brand words from Step 1 fresh in my mind, this website unlocks possibilities I wouldn’t have considered.
Works. Like. A. Charm.
Step 3
Check to ensure the url is available as well as the social media handles. Purchase the url, secure the social media handles, and you are ready to start building your brand!
